Maz Vantage Quant

Quant ratings

The Maz Rating: one number between 1 and 5, built from the bottom up — about eighty ratios, each ranked against the company’s own sector, rolled into five factors and then into the rating. These are the screens that rank on it, and what moved at the last scoring run.

Rating upgrades and downgrades

Every scoring run is kept, so a change is today’s Maz Rating against the one before it. A company is listed when its verdict moved — Hold to Buy is an upgrade, Buy to Sell a downgrade — with the largest moves first. Two runs of different scoring models are never compared: a model change moves ratings without the company having changed.

How to read a change

A rating is a rank inside the sector, so a company can be upgraded without anything improving — if its peers got worse, or if the companies in the sector changed. The ratios on its Ratings tab say which of the two it was.
