What this desk measures

Two things, both of them checkable: a result measured against the estimate that preceded it, and the articles written about the quarter.

It doesIt does not
Compare reported earnings per share with the consensus that stood before the result.Read the transcript. No model here scores management tone, counts hedging words or produces a sentiment reading — none is published, and this app runs none.
Show the surprise on both lines, with the actual and the estimate beside the percentage, sortable in either direction.Claim a surprise caused a price move. The two are not matched anywhere on this desk.

How to read a beat rate

A beat rate above half is the market’s normal state, not a signal. Consensus is guided by the companies it measures, and one that expects to miss usually resets the estimate first. Read the distance from the usual, not the direction.

The rate printed above the table is over the results in the window that had a usable estimate behind them — not over everything that reported. A company with no consensus on record cannot beat or miss, and counting it as either would move the rate for a reason that has nothing to do with the quarter.

Where each column comes from

ColumnSource
DateThe calendar’s own date for the report. The session — before the open or after the close — is on the Calendar page, where one is published; this table does not show it yet.
EPS estimate and actualThe consensus and the reported figure, both as filed on the calendar row.
EPS surpriseActual minus estimate, over the size of the estimate. Left empty where consensus was within half a cent of zero.
Revenue and revenue surpriseThe same pair on the top line, where both are published.
Market cap and sectorJoined from one screener call. The calendar itself carries neither.

What is not here

MissingWhy
Report time (before open or after close)Not in this table yet. The calendar carries it where one is published, and the Calendar page shows it.
GuidanceForward guidance is given on the call and in the release, not on this feed. The Analysts Forecast tab on a company report carries the estimates that follow it.
Price reactionMatching a surprise to the next session’s move needs a quote per company per date, and the causal claim it invites would not survive the arithmetic.
